MEET BARRIE

Barrie 1
Barrie Rein Thunemann

I have had the privilege to work with birthing and postpartum families since 2006, touching the lives of hundreds of families. I discovered Birthing From Within during my first pregnancy in 2004, and immediately connected with it’s ability to foster self acceptance and compassion, while at the same time providing all the practical tools I would need to prepare for birth and parenthood. I used the tools I learned throughout both of my pregnancies, births, and postpartum experiences.

One of the things I most value about the Birthing From Within approach is the opportunity to Mentor parents in connecting with their own inner wisdom and knowing.

In addition to being a certified Birthing From Within Mentor and Trained Birth Story Listener, I am also an Internationally Certified Childbirth Educator and Certified Birth Doula. I offer group and private childbirth preparation classes, birth story listening sessions and private birth art instruction. I have also presented on Birth Story Listening topics at a number of professional conferences and events.

In my free time I enjoy making art, knitting, reading and dance. I am also a wife and mother of two boys.

I am here to help you build confidence in yourself and your own inner wisdom.

CURIOUS? Here are a few Q & A.

Q.  WHEN DID YOU ANSWER YOUR CALLING?

I suffered from a postpartum mood disorder after the birth of my first child, which included an extended stay in the NICU and ongoing breastfeeding challenges. I found many of the practices from BFW helpful in my recovery process. I knew that Birthing From Within was going to be an important part of my life and I continue to use the tools of self reflection, solution focused thinking, mindfulness, and creative expression, gained through Birthing From Within, in my parenting and in my personal growth work.

Q.  WHAT DID YOU DO BEFORE YOU WERE A DOULA + EDUCATOR?

I was a grade school teacher!

Q. WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO OUTSIDE OF WORK?

When I am not working I love hanging out with my kids, husband and extended family. I also LOVE to dance! Dancing is a big part of my life and I am grateful for the opportunity to use dance and music to tap into my wild side.

Q.  WHAT IS THE MOST INTERESTING THING YOU HAVE DONE IN YOUR CAREER?

As a doula you have a lot of really memorable experiences that last in your memory. I have had the opportunity to support families and welcome babies into the world. Above all of that has been the profound shift in my work as I embraced the role of Birth Story Listener. I spent 12 months in an intensive mentorship program refining my skills and deepening my understanding of trauma healing.

I have an opportunity to see people shift. The work of Birth Story Listening is so powerful that it often within a few hours there is a massive change in how someone feels about themselves.

When I started I did not know that I would ever impact people in this way and it is a very rewarding part of my life.
